Immigrants are our family, our neighbors, and our co-workers. We are a nation of immigrants and we must open our arms and doors to those seeking asylum, especially considering our country’s hand in the disruption that has caused mass migrations. No one should live in fear of deportation. No one should have their children ripped from their arms and locked in a cage. Immigrants do so much of the unrecognized, often grueling labor of our country and deserve to be treated with dignity and justice. We must stop Trump’s border wall and his white supremacist agenda, and reimagine our complex immigration system that’s been riddled with problems long before Trump.

Protect DREAMers

The Dream Act of 2001 offered a pathway to legal status to young, undocumented immigrants who were brought into the country as children. Trump has made it his mission to dismantle these protections and deport legal Americans who have lived here for nearly two decades. We must stop him. Dreamers are not a bargaining chip to be lended in negotiation. Dreamers deserve a pathway to citizenship and under no circumstance should their legal right to be in this country be revoked.

Abolish ICE

ICE is not making our nation safer. They have become a rogue deportation force for the President’s white supremacist agenda. We must end raids at schools, places of worship, hospitals, and so much more.

Revamp the Visa Process

We have to repeal the 10-year ban that blocks immigrants who have been deported from returning to their families in the United States.

Combat Wage Theft

We have to strengthen the labor rights of immigrants in our country and end exploitation. We must establish whistleblower protections for immigrant workers who report abusive or illegal actions by employers.

Domestic Worker Bill of Rights

Domestic workers and caretakers have been historically excluded from many basic labor protections in our country. We must finally get rid of the racist and classist policies that continue to marginalize an essential and rapidly growing part of our workforce.

Humane Border Policy

We are turning away thousands of people who are fleeing danger and hardship. We must decriminalize immigration, end the detention of those seeking asylum and relief at our border, and eliminate all for-profit detention centers. We must support a Marshall Plan for Central America that helps confront the root economic, political, and environmental roots of increased migration.

Path to Citizenship

I believe in a path to citizenship and permanent protection from deportation for all 11 million undocumented Americans in our country.

While the current leadership has failed to produce results, Jamaal has been successfully fighting for families in the state.
